For many adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), isolation is a daily reality. Despite their talents and desire to contribute, they are too often excluded from meaningful, dignified employment—denied the pride, purpose, and connection that meaningful work can bring.
We believe work should offer more than a paycheck; it should offer belonging. Through partnerships with the Living and Learning Enrichment Center and Gesher Human Services, we have created a thriving model of inclusion for both Saint John’s Resort and The Inn at Stonecliffe. This model proves what’s possible when opportunity replaces barriers.
“You walk through our hallways, and you feel it—this is a place where everyone’s contributions are celebrated. That’s real hospitality.” -Amy Liesveld, Humanitarian Hotels Program Manager
Today, twelve team members with intellectual and developmental disabilities proudly work across our resort — not in isolated roles, but integrated into the heart of our operations. Over the past year alone, they collectively contributed more than 8,000 hours of service—the equivalent of nearly four full-time jobs. This isn’t a pilot program. It’s a sustainable, scalable example of how workplaces can be strengthened by embracing every member of the community.
“We employ adults with special skills because they bring a passion for service and are the heart and soul of what makes this property sparkle and shine every day,” -Eric Djordjevic, General Manager, Saint John’s Resort
In 2024, Saint John’s Resort was honored with Gesher Human Service’s “Employer of the Year” award—a recognition of what happens when dignity meets opportunity, and inclusion becomes a foundation rather than an afterthought.
The impact is best captured through the stories of our team members themselves. As Ted Goewey of Gesher Human Services shared, “Omari is an example of what happens when dedication meets opportunity—a testament to the spirit of the human soul and the profound impact of being given a chance.”
By choosing to stay with us, you help sustain and grow a culture where every individual, regardless of ability, is given the chance to succeed, to belong, and to be proud of their work. Thank you for being part of a future where possibility is for everyone.
